It is a congenital birth defect that occurs in a baby's lip or mouth due to incomplete closure of the upper lip or roof of the mouth during pregnancy.
What are the Types of Cleft lip and Cleft palate?:-
1) Complete & 2) incomplete occurs unilaterally ( one side) or bilaterally (on both sides)
1) Cheiloplasty:- It is the surgical repair of the Cleft lip
2) Palatoplasty:- it is the surgical repair of the Cleft palate
3) Classical sign of cleft palate:- Dysphasia (difficulty in speaking)
4) Classical sign of cleft lip:- Dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing)
5) Cleft lip and palate can detect at 10th weeks of gestational age.
6) Most common facial congenital anomaly:- Cleft lip & cleft palate
7) Most common site for cleft lip:- at the left side
